You’ve probably heard it, you’ve probably drank it and you’ve probably even forgotten about it.

But anyway, meet my drink for any kind of quarantine— The Ginger, Lemon, Honey, Turmeric (Haldi) Tea!

Now, since this ‘tea’ does not have a name as such, I’m going ahead and calling it the Golden tea for the rest of the article.

Why The Golden Tea Is My Flu-Shot for Immunity:

#1. These ingredients have been a part of me since I was little…

My mother mixed turmeric (haldi) and honey with warm water whenever I got sick. My father stirred up ginger and lemon water because he craves that extra zing and it’s also a great digestive. My grandmother would feed me a spoonful of honey, turmeric and clove powder mashed into a paste.

#2. It’s also quite famous in India…

When I was in trekking up in Himachal Pradesh, India, I was served a warm concoction of ginger, lemon and honey tea. It’s quite famous around that place and excellent for keeping you strong, healthy and warm.

The tea was served in a long transparent glass, perfect for the weather and the vibe. I drank it multiple times later then. I got so fond of it, that I started making it when I got home. And since then, I was hooked.

“The tea’s ingredients are simple and natural. Essential for boosting immunity, improving metabolism and building a better defense mechanism for the human body.

It’s your weapon against any pandemic or flu.”

The Golden Tea’s Four Natural Elements:

  • Ginger: Ginger is known to aid digestion, reduce nausea, and help fight the flu and common cold. It’s a fantastic anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It’s great for lowering the blood sugar, helps speed up emptying of the stomach and fight harmful bacteria and viruses.
  • Lemon: Lemon not only helps in bringing the food alive with its fresh zest, but it also promotes hydration, vitamin C, weight loss, digestion and helps prevent kidney stones.
  • Honey: Made by hardworking-endangered bees and loved by Whinny-The-Pooh, honey is rich in antioxidants and has a positive effect on cholesterol levels. It’s also an effective treatment for burns, wounds and other skin conditions.
  • Turmeric (haldi): Haldi is the reason why Indian currys are so yellow. But it’s also known to be a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It helps in increasing the growth of new neurons, fights various degenerative processes in your brain and helps prevent cancer, alzheimers and depression. Team Yellow!

How To Make It?

There are two ways of making it. Both are very simple, it just depends on your mood.

The First Way

Step 1: Add 1 cup of water to a pan and bring it to a simmer/boil

Step 2: Reduce heat and add ½ teaspoon of turmeric

Step 3: Cut the ginger into very tiny pieces/ or grate it into the boiling water

Let it simmer and brew for a minute or so…

Step 4: Squeeze a teaspoon of lemon into the water

Step 5: Stir well and turn off the heat to let it settle

Step 6: Add 1 teaspoon of honey into your mug

Step 7: Get a strainer and pour it all into the mug and mix well

(If you wanna chew on the ginger, take out a little from the strainer into the mug, it’s adds a little crunch to the drink)

The Second Way (or the lazy way)

Step 1: Boil the water in the kettle

Step 2: Add 1 teaspoon of honey, ½ teaspoon of turmeric and 1 teaspoon of lemon and little grated ginger into the mug

Step 3: Mix well and sip like Master Iroh (Avatar reference)

“I prefer the first way because it gives more definition to the tea and feels like I’ve actually made tea!“

What’s my Chemical X?

Mix and brew… all of these powerful little elements in a cup of water.

Let each element carry and combine its own flavor profile, benefits into one single cup.

Think of it as brewing a cup of pure goodness for the mind, body and soul.

And for the Chemical X… sprinkle a little bit of Black Pepper / Cayenne / Cinnamon to enhance the flavour.

“It’s the little things that make the most difference, right?”

Side notes

Drink it with milk instead of water, but leave out the lemon.

Refrigerate it and store in a jar to drink it as a summer coolant.

Who Needs To Drink This?

  • If you’ve got a weak immune system
  • If you keep falling sick
  • Acidity, IBS, indigestion problems or stomach discomfort
  • If you’re feeling weak, low, tired or restless

When To Drink This?

  • Drink this if you’re hit with the flu or trying to escape it
  • When accompanying the person who is sick
  • Drink it early in the morning or just before you sleep
  • Or…you could sip on it on a Sunday afternoon

And… that’s about it!

I hope you try this recipe out! I’ve been drinking it almost every week or month ever since 2014.

It’s kept me sane and swell. It’s a very dynamic drink and very customisable, depending on the mood and situation. I have faith in this drink and I hope it helps you!
